Re: How test the end of a coax cable run to see if signal being transmitted.
You could get an idea if you have access to a cable toner.
Or You could use your modem, and take it from cable outlet to cable outlet, if it locks on like it normally does, it’s live.

How long can you run coax cable without loss?
Coaxial cable can be cabled over longer distances than twisted-pair cable. For example, Ethernet can run approximately 100 meters (328 feet) using twisted-pair cabling. Using coaxial cable increases this distance to 500m (1640.4 feet).
Does length of coaxial cable affect signal?
When it comes to signal loss over longer cable lengths, the basic rule of thumb is that a 50-foot cable can experience noticeable signal loss, and a 100-foot cable can drop as much as one-third of the original signal.
Will a coax cable splitter slow my connection speed?
Cable splitter only reduces signal strength. It won’t affect the internet speed.
How do you test coaxial cable for signal strength?
Connect the negative end of the multimeter probe to the center wire/pin at one side of the coax. Make sure it is not touching to the outer layer. Connect the positive end of the multimeter probe to the center wire/pin at the other side of coax. Same precautions should be taken as you took with the positive tip.
Do cable splitters go bad?
A cable splitter WILL result in a degradation of the signal, even if the other ports are unused. One thing you can do is to add terminator caps to each unused port. They are supposed to reduce the degradation. Note that cheaper cable splitters will actually have a different amount of signal loss for each port.
What is a good cable TV signal strength?
A -65 dBmA -65 dBm signal should come-in good for a short cable run to a single television, but may be too weak for long cable runs or signal splitters unless an antenna preamp is used. A television’s required minimum signal depends on the receiver sensitivity and local conditions (electronic noise pollution).
How do I test an antenna with a multimeter?
Touch one lead of the multimeter to the metal part of the antenna and touch the other lead to the metal core of the cable. The ohms reading should be zero. If the resistance is greater than that, the antenna or cable is damaged, which is preventing a signal from reaching the reception device.
