I need to start by tooting my own horn. I’m doing the project Month of Letters for the month of March and I still have spaces on my dance card as SiftingTheGrain (T) so eloquently said. If you would like to participate and receive a handmade letter, send me your address via email at: clmannesATgmailDOTcom. To find out more click this link.
Favorite Tweets of the Week:
Search Terms of the Week:
- Decorations Tim Burton Mystic: I think we would get along. We should go for tea, light some incense and discuss the constellations like the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia.
- Sad Friendship Break-up Tips: Watch Now and Then because every girl needs to learn how to make pudding boobs before the age of fourteen, and it’s a good friendship movie.
- Bowel Movements Diagram: I hope that you’re a medical student.
- am I weird? cozy thoughts help me have a bowel movement: This is why people shouldn’t diagnose illnesses online.
- is sunny but the air is full of bullshit: I couldn’t agree more.
Otherwise here is the news:
- A case for recess in schools via The Atlantic.
- I just love this quaint thought from DoubleDay on Tumblr.
- Book Riot has created a new website for book trailers.
- How many people do you know who read the first sentence of a back cover blurb (a five second skim) and put the book back on the shelf? I might be one of these people, occasionally. I think I’ve gotten better about this and I actually read the whole blurb, and then I look at the author’s photo to make sure they aren’t schmucky. Huffington & Book Riot have created a list of good authors with bad blurbs.
- Best Woody Allen poetry moments via Cold Front.
- A girl in my memoir class is up for Story of the Month at Bartleby Snopes Literary Magazine. Read and Vote for “Racing Cancer” here. (You can also read the other stories, but I assure you that Cortney’s is wonderful).
- Albatross has created a new-fangled bookmark. It sounds really awesome.
-
Book Riot – Book Fetish Blogs. Love these. They do them frequently. Here’s one of the many.
- Want a bookish wedding? Taking engagement pictures in the library stacks? Check out these wedding invites. They’re the perfect bookmarks, or fridge ornaments, if I do say so myself.
-
AWP Bingo Card for those of you who are flying, driving, skipping, or hiding in a coal train to Chicago this week.
- Duotrope has finally decided to add Creative Non-fiction to their listings. And all the memoirists rejoice.
- Katharine Boo shares her favorite books about inequality on Goodreads.
- Jane Berenstain passes away. Beloved childhood author of the Berenstain Bears book series. Media Bisto shares an interview excerpt here. Here is another link by NPR on the death of this wonderful woman.
- Better World Books has shared five ways of teaching your children about sustainable living. This has almost nothing to do with books, but I believe in recycling. My dad just told me yesterday that the only book I wanted to read as a child was The Lorax. No wonder I am who I am today. Yes, I will be the 24-year-old in the theater cheering when it’s released.
- MARCH FOURTH – NATIONAL GRAMMAR DAY
- How Fairy Tales Damage Men via Good Men Project.
- Seattle Times share the latest kids’ books to win the Coretta Scott King Award.
- Norton shares the poem, “Sunday Morning” by Wallace Stevens on Tumblr.
- National Poetry Month: Call for Ideas and Submissions.
- Everyone should already know this because we’re all obsessed with her mystery, but, JK Rowling is writing a new book. Hint: It’s for adults.
Have a good Tuesday!

Good post Cassie! Here’s one for you: “You’re the girl with the big ideas but they are like butterflies high on LSD, fluttering inside your mind” :)

Thank you! It seems like you are the one who should be writing, darling. I look forward to reading YOUR book. Butterflies high on LSD – where did you come up with that – wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
